The Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have reached an agreement. Both parties have concluded negotiations on the Framework Agreement which was held at the State Room of the Palace of the Golden Horses hotel in Kuala Lumpur and have peacefully achieved something that we may call as a "historical moment" not only for the political side of the country but for our nation as a whole.
Soon enough, there will be no more Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and will be replaced with an all new autonomous political entity: the "Bangsamoro." Bangsamoro is seen to be established by 2016 and will be created through an Executive Order and supported by Congressional resolutions. "The ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao) is a failed experiment. Many of the people continue to feel alienated by the system, and those who feel that there is no way out will continue to articulate their grievances through the barrel of a gun," the President stated, and is looking forward in paving a "final, enduring peace in Mindanao." Its core territory will be the present five-province, two-city Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the six towns in Lanao del Norte (Baloi, Munai, Nunungan, Pantar, Tagoloan and Tangkal) and the barangays in the towns of Kabacan, Carmen, Aleosan, Pigcawayan, Pikit and Midsayap that voted for inclusion it he 2001 plebiscite; the cities of Cotabato and Isabela in Basilan and all other contiguous areas where there is a resolution of the local government unit or there is a petition of at least ten percent of the qualified voters in their area. The agreement is set to be signed in Manila next week, but no exact date and place has been set yet. The Framework Agreement will be signed in the presence of Aquino, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, and MILF chief Al Haj Murad Ibrahim The information above were taken (some copied) from the following websites, accessed 10/08/12 at around 10:00 AM: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/-bangsamoro--region-ok-d-as-peace-talks-end.html http://www.rappler.com/nation/13750-ph-govt,-milf-reach-agreement-bangsamoro-soon-on-map http://www.mindanews.com/peace-process/2012/10/07/bangsamoro-to-replace-armm-by-2016/
