It's been weeks already but the news barrage on the Vhong versus Deniece and Cedric has yet to die down. The public has been more following this issue up close (or they're following it up close because the local news social media platforms posts about this issue around 2/3 of the time). Not to mention it's being reminded to us everyday when people watch It's Showtime or the daily primetime news. And it's getting more messed up.
Everybody's taking sides, getting enraged by other people's opinions, and enraging other people in the process. People have been making jokes about the issue, and others are just riding on with the bandwagon. Typical Pinoy stuff that's really hard to cut off. And here comes posts that are a bit sensible. People reminding others that there are more important news to watch over. Well, there's the effort but of course most of us just can't resist getting back to the show that we're enjoying.
Now, we ask again the ultimate question to end this insanity: Who's right here?
Nobody. And also, it's the wrong question.
Basically, it was wrong of Cedric Lee and his gang to beat up Vhong and extort him for cash. It was wrong of Deniece to invite Vhong to her condominium unit and end up telling the world that Vhong attempted to rape her. It was wrong of Vhong to cheat on his girlfriend and betray the trust of his family. To sum it up again for everyone: Nobody is right in this scenario.
Now we ask the ultimate question. "WHAT STARTED IT ALL?" Pinpointing the source of the chain of events, we can conclude that it all started with Vhong Navarro (insert the ultimate fan rage reaction afterwards). As Vhong keeps telling us, his fault is being unfaithful to his current girlfriend. We've seen fans defending Vhong on this regard - saying that Vhong is just human and gives in to temptations. Come on, not all girlfriends would be as understanding as Vhong's. It's a taboo if you want to keep a steady relationship. And of course as a public figure you shouldn't do it. People look up to you, and if they see that you could get away with that, then there's an increased risk that they will follow you. The media does not emphasize this point on their news, and it's taken for granted by most people. Most awkward moment comes to mind that Vhong's kids are already old enough. Seriously, what would your reaction be if you knew by then that your father was hooking up with a young model like Deniece?
So guys, we really should get over this issue. Bottomline is it's just another result of an unhealthy relationship - of giving in to temptations - of thinking that cheating your partner and you could get away with it. We should keep this in mind: we should never cheat to your partner thinking you'd get away with it, because in the current times, you might end up being blackmailed by someone like Cedric Lee... and you might not have the media to back you up.
Pinoy na Pinoy.
